The 5th World Youth Congress Turkey , 31 July - 13 August 2010
Turkey will welcome 1000 young people between 18 and30 from around the world to meet during Istanbul 's year as the European Capital of Culture. A youth-organized, youth-led event, the World Youth Congress brings together youth activists, media professionals, entrepreneurs, artists and educators in a 10-day programme of lectures, workshops and cultural events. The young participants will discuss policy issues, share their experiences with development professionals from government, the UN and think tanks and take part in an exhibition of the latest achievements in Youth-led Development.
In this 5th Edition of the Congress, delegates are focusing on further professionalizing the field of Youth-led Development by producing a toolkit to assist young development project managers to better self-assess and monitor the impact of their projects. It will also be looking at low carbon development policy after the Copenhagen COP-15 meeting, the role of youth in post-2015 / post-MDG development policy, and the concept of ‘IMECE’ – the ancient Turkish system of solidarity.
Each World Youth Congress includes a feature on Local action projects: for five days, congress delegates will travel across Turkey to assist in local, community improvement projects, designed and delivered by local youth. This will give each delegate a chance to test out in practice ideas discussed in the congress workshops and round tables. Most of all – the 1,000 outstanding young activists from 100+ countries, each of whom care passionately about our planet and its future, will meet, make friends, have an amazing fun time and, often, change the direction of their lives.
