Foreign Trade Bank (FTB) offers 10 full scholarships to University of Puthisastra (UP)

On Friday 30 April 2009 at UP Campus, UP celebrates an event to receive full scholarship support for 10 students in bachelor program from FTB with the participation of H.E Sok Puthyvuth, President of UP; Lok Chumteav Polyna Ung, deputy director general & Board member of FTB.

H.E. Sok Puthyvuth said “The vision of University of Puthisastra is to develop, share and provide knowledge and competency through our core values to the students, so they can take part in the ownership of the development process of Cambodia and the global community”. We are trying very hard to provide high quality of education to students such as: 1-Providing Student Exchange Program with Different Universities around the world; 2-UP is the first Microsoft IT Academy in Cambodia which can provide international certifications to students in order to meet the job market’s demand in IT locally and globally; 3-Promote student’s soft skill through the implementation of extracurricular activities and events such as: reading club, debate club, music club, dance club, computer club, robot club, leadership program, social activities, professional short courses, business plan competition, and so on.

Lok Chumteam Polyna Ung quoted that “FTB is the first bank in Cambodia which was created on October 1979. In the last 30 years, FTB is developing itself based on the requirements customers by providing additional banking products and services such as: ATM machine with fingerprint authentication, electricity payment and check customers transactions via Internet Banking”. She also added that FTB will help to support the education in Cambodia because education is very important to develop economic and society and it play very important role to reduce poverty in Cambodia. So FTB will continue to strongly support the vision of University of Puthisastra in order to produce qualify people who are very valuable resources to build and develop our community in the future.

Awarding Ceremony on “Production Management Certification”

On Thursday 29 April 2009 at Phnom Penh Hotel, University of Puthisastra (UP) and Cambodia Skills Development Center (CASDEC) hosted certificates ceremony to students who attended 4 months program names “Production Management” with honorable participation of H.E Pich Sophoan, Secretary of State, Ministry of Labor and Vocational training.

The program aimed to provide opportunities to students to be middle managers in garment industry which is investing up to billion dollars of Economic in Cambodia. While most middle managers are hired from abroad, the program provides a high competency to students with practical experiences in some garments and trained by highly experience teacher.

After the courses, students can be hired by the owners of factory with good salary comparing with the amount that they are hiring foreigner staffs. We received a good result that among of 8 students, there are 3 students are already hired by the garment factories during the training program.

Workshop on: “Microsoft New Products 2010”

On April 24, 2010, University of Puthisastra (UP), a first Microsoft IT Academy in Cambodia, had conducted a Workshop on “Microsoft New Products 2010” in the afternoon. There were more than 150 participants from different institutions in Phnom Penh such as students from Norton University, RUPP, Amret, EDC, First Cambodia, ITC, Wing, Microsoft MDP Cambodia, Neeka Ltd, National Univerisity of Management, Pannasastra University, Limkowing, RULE, Sisowath High School, Bartouk High School etc..., IT NGOs staffs, Banks, Local & Foreigner Companies etc...

Mr. Chhourm Piseth, Microsoft Student Partner in Cambodia, was invited to be a guest speaker who presented about Microsoft Silverlight Version 4. In addition to this, Mr. Vuthy KIM, a Recruitment Associate from HR Inc., presented about how to do recruitment for all students especially for IT students. Furthermore, Mr. ONG Withyard, Dean of ICT department and Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), presented about Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and another Microsoft Certified Trainer, Mr. Ham Sokly presented about Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2010. At the end of the workshop, we had Lucky Draw Program. The lucky draw offered 15 students to get free training courses on Microsoft Windows 7 and 20 students received free USB flash drive (2Go & 4Go).

Exchange Program in University of Puget Sound, USA 2010

Between 4 April and 20 April, 5 students from University of Puthisastra and 5 from National University of Management joined Cultural Exchange Program in University of Puget Sound (Seattle, WA)in USA. This program conducts every year and the objective aims to provide international learning experiences and promotes cultural exchange between Cambodia students and U.S. students. During the 2 weeks in U.S., students did a lot of class activities, exchange cultural, and visit many difference places organized U.S. students. There are 10 U.S. students will come to visit Cambodia from May to June.

Happy New Year Day 2010

On 10 April 2010, University of Puthisastra held a party for students and staffs to celebrate Khmer New Year. The party was organized by UP students and involved many activities including popular Khmer games, a singing competition (UP Khmer Idol) and traditional dancing. The ceremony started at 8:00 AM in the morning when students started arriving and playing party games such as banana eating race, sack race and VaiKaom.

The Afternoon Show started at 3:00 PM and began with the singing competition (UP Khmer Idol) followed by a Khmer traditional dance show; trot, knocking coconut shell, Chhun Por. The purpose of the party was not just to celebrate Khmer New Year but also to give UP students the chance to share their experiences from what they have learned from each club at the university such as the dancing club, reading club, debate club and video club. In addition, it was also an opportunity for staff, UP students and members of the public to get to know each other and build relationships.

Annual Quality Review

Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) visited University of Puthisastra (UP)

On April 1, 2010, a delegation from the MoEYS, led by H.E. Ly Somony, Under Secretary of State of the MoEYS came to UP to do an Annual Quality Review.

“UP has been going on the right track for quality of Higher Education; and quality is a longevity of a University,” said H.E. Ly Somony.
